Restoration of the Fjord of Furore

Restoration of the Fjord of Furore

The Fjord of Furore is located along the Amalfi Coast in Italy. It has become increasingly polluted over the last 30-40 years. The Fjord is actually a river delta in which water drains down into it from the canyon above. The cheese making village of Agerola is located upstream and dumped sewage directly into the stream prior to 1980 when a pipeline was installed. Unfortunately, the pipeline failed to resolve the problem, and the ground water and ecosystem of the Fjord are badly contaminated.

The extent of contamination needs to be determined, and restorative measures need to be implemented. Preserving the Vision intends to implement a project to identify damage to historic structures, water quality and damage to the ecosystem, resulting in an environmental impact study. This study will then be used to obtain funding and support on a world wide scale to restore the Fjord to its pre-1980s condition with clean water and a healthy seaside ecosystem, with the support of local residents along the Amalfi coastline.
